Variable Expenses

Costs that change from month to month based on your choices and usage.

Variable expenses fluctuate: groceries, gas, electricity, dining out, and shopping all rise and fall depending on your behavior and the season. They are harder to predict but easier to adjust in the short term.

Because you control them in the moment, variable expenses are where budgeting tools like cash stuffing and weekly spending caps do the most work.
