Liquidity

How quickly an asset can be turned into cash without losing value.

Liquidity describes how easily you can access money. Cash and a savings account are highly liquid; a house or a retirement account is not, because converting them to cash takes time or penalties.

An emergency fund needs to be liquid so it is there on your worst day. Long-term money can be less liquid in exchange for higher growth.
